The type of business research is usually categorized either as basic or applied research.

Interestingly, the type of research could also be further breakdown to quantitative or qualitative research.

Quantitative Research: This type of study employs empirical data to investigate a phenomenon. Thus this type of study is commonly done by business students as it uses practical data.
Qualitative Research: On the other hand qualitative research is an in depth study of phenomena by observing a particular case or unit of analysis. It is a research that produce descriptive data i.e. people’s own written or spoken words and observable behaviors. Qualitative research is difficult to do and thus usually done by specialist or well trained experts.
