I realized that being an interviewer, at times there would be some silent moment where the interviewee needs time to think before giving us an answer. We should remain silent and not interrupt.

It’s common that when we get to this “silent moment” being an interviewer we would be uncomfortable by the awkward moment and tend to fill up the silence by asking more questions which interrupts interviewee thinking.

I was able to remain silent during interview especially when competency-based question was asked. Normally interviewee will need a longer time to think before responding to competency based questions. I would reassure the interviewee by saying, “it’s alright for you to take some time with this question as normally interviewee would need some additional time to remember/recap on what had happened”.
